About CKM

What is CKM?
Commando Krav Maga combines the best of many Israeli fighting systems. Devastating in its approach, it allows you to take control of any situation by engaging, neutralizing and disengaging quickly. The system was founded by Moni Aizik while serving in the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). Moni being a soldier and a seven time Judo champion thought as good as the system (Krav Maga) was it could be made even better. In the early 80's Moni moved to Canada and opened the first Israeli Fighting systems school of its kind. Here he used all of his military and martial arts experience to refine and create what is now known as the most devastating reality based self protection system in the civilian world, Commando Krav Maga.

Students in CKM enjoy the benefits of a highly advanced training method used by the military; this allows them to see the results much faster students learning a traditional martial art.

CKM will teach you to:
  • Be aware of your surroundings and avoid potential threats
  • Defend yourself and family against armed and unarmed attackers
  • Debilitate your adversary, irrespective of his size or training background
  • Execute straightforward moves that can save your life
  • Become skilled in hand-to-hand combat

CKM Philosophy

1. Ethical

In CKM, the intention in any conflict is to find an honorable path towards a peaceful resolution. CKM abhors fighting. Violence is our absolute last resort in resolving a confrontation. CKM always gives the aggressor a chance to save face, an honorable solution without the feeling of compromised self esteem. Our body says “I do not want to fight”, our eyes say "watch out”

Often a fight is all about someone’s ego, ours or theirs. CKM practitioners know it is best to deescalate the situation and avoid violence. Every CKM student will seek to dissolve their ego through intense training and introspection.

2. Pragmatic
The second principal of CKM is this: While negotiating for peace, prepare for war.

CKM evolved in the hostile environment of the Middle East. So CKM is a mature pragmatic body of knowledge. Though CKM practitioners strive to deescalate all situations that may turn violent, we are not oblivious to the fact that there are many unintelligent people out there who might mistake a desire for peace as weakness.

So, even as we try to negotiate an honorable peace we instantly prepare for attack. The CKM starting stance for instance conceals far more than it reveals. If there is to be any kind of fighting, the opponent will know nothing of what is about to come as he reaches our red zone. This allows us to launch the most devastating counter attacks from what looks like a most innocuous position.

3. Dynamic:

Static systems that claim to know all the answers are obviously highly suspect. All bodies of knowledge must constantly evolve and be updated to keep pace with the changing environment, else become outdated and of no use. CKM knows that criminals and terrorist keep changing their tactics. Therefore CKM will continue to evolve, keeping pace with the enemy as they change their tactics.

Combat in the street is totally unpredictable. There are no rules. There is no fight doctor or referee to stop the action if it gets out of hand. Your survival is neither a game nor a sport. Street criminals have a knack for using weapons such as knives, guns, bats etc… they also may have an accomplice lurking not too far away.

Therefore think like a Commando! Engage and disengage rapidly. Engage only if there is no other choice, and then finish the attacker off immediately. Disengage quickly before his accomplices have time to come to his rescue. The goal is simple. Survival…you must realize that there are no rules on the street. This is the third rule of CKM.
